  • FIRST ANNUAL TORCH NETWORK CONFERENCE BEING HELD IN CHICAGO

    On September 12th, 13th, and 14th of 2014, South Side Chicago ARA will be hosting the 1st Annual Torch Network Conference. Torch is a North American antifascist Network that evolved out of the Anti-Racist Action network. This conference has 2 parts; A private portion reserved for vouched antifascist chapters within the network (get vouched in now!) and a public portion for any and all antifascists interested in either the network or simply meeting other antifascists and having a good time. There will be workshops, tables, and more.

  • DONATE TO PRISON RELEASE FUNDS FORANTI-RACIST POLITICAL PRISONERS CECE MCDONALD AND JOHN TUCKER

    Hey everyone, We would like to encourage all our readers to donate to one or both of these brave individuals who were imprisoned for taking a stand against Racism and Fascism.

    Cece McDonald is a trans woman who was attacked in 2011, along with several friends, by a group of Transphobic Racists.  In the ensuing melee, one of the attackers was stabbed and killed.  Cece is scheduled to be released this month and her supporters are fundraising to give her some help when she get out.     It is with both great excitement and some sadness that we introduce TORCH, an anti-fa network. Out of the old Anti-Racist Action Network rises a new, militant anti-fascist network. This isn’t a fracture or schism coming from internal strife but the result of the realization that the blueprint laid out in a time before the internet no longer serves as a sufficient model for combating fascism. We acknowledge that many of our comrades have lost much, some their lives, under the banner of ARA. Their sacrifices will not be forgotten and their fight is still our fight. Because of changes in the current political climate as well as our own political development, our understanding of what fascism is and how it relates to other political entities such as the working class, capital, and the state has evolved. We wanted to build a new network that fit our needs and politics. One that is more relevant and appealing to a new generation of anti-fascists.
    We are still on the prowl. We will still continue to expose, confront, and act. Fascist beware… we are TORCH. 

    TORCH Points of Unity:

    1. We disrupt fascist and far right organizing and activity.

    2. We don’t rely on the cops or courts to do our work for us. This
    doesn’t mean we never go to court, but the cops uphold white supremacy
    and the status quo. They attack us and everyone who resists oppression.
    We must rely on ourselves to protect ourselves and stop the fascists.

    3. We oppose all forms of oppression and exploitation. We intend to do
    the hard work necessary to build a broad, strong movement of oppressed
    people centered on the working class against racism, sexism, nativism,
    anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, homophobia, transphobia, and discrimination
    against the disabled, the oldest, the youngest, and the most oppressed
    people. We support abortion rights and reproductive freedom. We want a
    classless, free society. We intend to win!

    4. We hold ourselves accountable personally and collectively to live up to our ideals and values.

    5. We not only support each other within the network, but we also
    support people outside the network who we believe have similar aims or
    principles.     An attack against one is an attack against all.

(I have phoned our many guests coming from out of state to avoid their making an unnecessary journey before they get this email.) They will not have to look far to wonder why Jews are so unpopular.

  • TINLEY PARK FIVE ACCEPT NON-COOPERATING PLEA BARGAIN

    On January 4, 2013 all members of the Tinley Park Five accepted a non-cooperating plea bargain in which they each plead guilty to three felony counts of Armed Violence in exchange for “lenient” sentences and the guarantee of ‘day-for-day’ good behavior. Jason Sutherlin was sentenced to 6 years. Cody Lee Sutherlin and Dylan Sutherlin were sentenced to 5 years. Alex Stuck and John Tucker were sentenced to 3 1/2 years due to their youth and complete lack of criminal history. Each will be placed upon two years of supervised release upon release from prison.

    Before the plea was accepted, the State offered the Tinley Park Five one last chance to betray their comrades in exchange for their freedom. What a waste of time! As anarchist and antifascists, the Tinley Park Five are no more capable of selling out the struggle than their broken system is capable of reforming itself! They laughed at the offer and bravely accepted their fate.

    Credit was given for the 7 months already served in Cook County. They will receive ’day-for-day’ good time credit which effectively cuts the sentences in half. The state of Illinois also offers several programs and classes which can chip away at sentences. Optimistically, Alex and John could be out before Christmas 2013. Dylan and Cody could be out my Autumn 2014. Jason could be out by Christmas 2014. This is all hypothetical and highly speculative of course.

    On Monday January 7th, the Tinley Park Five will be transferred to Stateville for between one and three weeks. There the Illinois Department of Corrections will decide where they will spend the duration of their sentences. Until this decision is reached PLEASE HOLD ALL MAIL. If you wish to donate to the Tinley Park Five at this time we ask that you use WePay rather than money orders at this time, as we’re concerned that they will get lost or delayed as the Tinley Park Five are being transferred between facilities. We’re working on trying to quickly raise as much money as possible to ease this transition.

    Make no mistake, it is with great sorrow that we accept just how long we’ll be separated from our dear friends, but they will not be forgotten nor will their struggle cease in their absence. This support crew will continue to advocate for each of them in whatever they decide to do until every last one of them is free. Communiques from several members of the Tinley Park Five to their supporters are expected soon and will be posted on this website.

    The Tinley Park Five as well as their supporters, comrades, family, and friends would like to thank Aaron Goldstein, Sara Garber, Brian Barrido, James Fennerty, Stuart Smith, Matthew Dodge, and everyone else who assisted in their legal defense.   • ARA Releases Information On Golden Dawn North America After A Two And A Half Month Intelligence Operation

    Contrary to recent International news Greece’s neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn is NOT setting up shop in Chicago. We tricked tricked them. Their vaunted Chicago expansion was in fact an Anti-Racist Action intelligence operation. We are releasing some of the fruits of that operation now.

    This release is in three parts:

    1. As a claim of a small victory in our ongoing struggle against fascism, racism, and anti-immigrant hatred.
    2. To release documentation on leaders, members, and supporters of Golden Dawn in North America, Greece, and wherever else they maybe hiding.
    3. To call for others to flood the Golden Dawn Headquarters and New York branch in an effort not only to destroy Golden Dawn’s ability to grow, but to destroy the credibility of anyone who might want to sincerely help them. 

    Over the past two and a half months, Anti-Racist Action has been involved in a quiet campaign to stop the nationalist organization from expanding in North America. One of our goals, which we achieved with great success, was to gain intelligence on members of New York’s Golden Dawn chapter, their supporters, and members within the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York who might be sympathetic to their views.

    We chose Chicago as a fictitious base for our operation because of its strong antifascist presence and the massive Greek population affected by the diaspora in and around the city. To us, it seemed highly probable that this may be one of the next major battlegrounds between Golden Dawn and anti-fascists in the US, and we wanted to lay claim before they could.

    One of the main ways to halt any nazi organization from expanding, is by causing them to doubt any networking request they may receive from abroad. For this, we need your help. Here’s what we did, and what you can do, too, to stop them.

    The first step was rather easy. Because we’d been watching the white nationalist website Stormfront for since its inception, we knew that there were several members who were sympathetic to, even envious of, Golden Dawn’s approach to neo-Nazism. Several of these members were of Greek descent, and some resided in Greece. We assumed that someone had to know something. It was merely a matter of picking the slow antelope from the herd.

    After a dozen or so posts, we gained trust from Panos8814, a member who had posted a translation of the Golden Dawn manifesto. We offered to help with future translations, and he gave us a contact to Patreus, another member, who was more connected with the organization in Greece. Patreus and Panos8814 divulged important information without ever meeting face to face, to an anonymous person with a four day old account. This is a major fail for Golden Dawn.

    Patreus told us that he would keep us updated on any important news regarding Golden Dawn in the United States. Panos8814 and Patreus both encouraged us to contact the organization through the main website, and Panos gave us step-by-step instructions on what to say and who to contact. This exposed their security methods and people in Greece to us as well. Patreus mentioned that the International chapters function autonomously from the main Greek organization, but that it still needed to go through Greece’s Golden Dawn.

    We told Golden Dawn that we intended to start a chapter in Chicago and wanted help with the protocol on how do to that correctly. Within days, we had an email from Golden Dawn headquarters.

    In our first email from Golden Dawn, we were told to contact Emmanouil Lallas, controller of New York Golden Dawn. We were given a Facebook account, email address, and phone number. Through his Facebook, we found that Lallas was friends with Demetrios Demetrios, the third vice president of the Federation of Hellenic Societies of Greater New York, though not with any of the other members of the board. After a couple web searches, we found that he had spoken at a workshop put on by the Federation in May 2012.

    Over time Golden Dawn gave us critical information, which we used to locate it’s membership in the United States. Some of their membership is listed below. Feel free to discuss current events and race relations with them via phone, email, fax and in person. We hope that if we can flood Golden Dawn with fictitious chapter requests, they won’t know who to trust.
